Hi there! My name is Marcela Torres, and I am a pedagogue who graduated from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
A bit about me
I am passionate about education and the way it intertwines with technology. If there’s a way to make learning more interactive and engaging through tech, I’m all in! 🌟
I specialize in instructional design, where I get to turn raw information into meaningful learning experiences. My work requires both creativity and structure—like solving a giant puzzle 🧩, where every piece contributes to building a more effective and engaging learning environment. I have been fortunate to collaborate on various projects with different universities, yet I know there’s always more to learn.
Currently, I work as Head of the Educational Design Department at the Tecnológico Superior de Jalisco en Línea, where I lead the instructional design of graduate programs. My role allows me to bridge pedagogy and technology, particularly in Business Management Engineering, ensuring that online education is not just a digital replica of traditional teaching, but an experience that truly fosters learning 😎.
What drives me?
First of all… 📘📙 READ! 📕📗 I love books so much that I set up reading challenges every year, mixing classics, award-winning books, different genres, and pedagogical literature. One of my favorite aspects of these challenges is comparing books across different periods and cultures: How does a 19th-century classic differ from a 20th-century one? What makes a Mexican novel unique compared to a work from another country? How does the economy shape artistic expression in different historical periods? These questions fuel my curiosity and broaden my perspective. Do you want to know my reading challenges from the past three years? Click here.
Second of all, the magic of spontaneous conversations 🗣️ with strangers. You meet someone by chance, exchange thoughts, and suddenly, for a brief moment, you glimpse into another world.
And finally, swimming 🏊. There’s something therapeutic about water, the silence beneath, and the rhythm of each stroke. It helps me clear my mind and reset.
My goals
Very serious here:
1. Become the best version of myself for my family, my community, and my faith.
2. Improve as a pedagogue, even by just 1% each day, so I can create a lasting positive impact on students.
3. Create opportunities for students and colleagues who are just starting their careers.
4. Get accepted into the Master’s in Education Futures at the University of Edinburgh.
How am I working towards these goals?
- Reflecting through therapy, to process, question, and grow.
- Constantly analyzing my projects. Looking for what did worked, what didn’t? How can I take them to the next level? And of course, asking for feedback with my peers.
- Launching my own podcast! A platform to explore diverse perspectives and to connect experts with students.
- I’m actively preparing for the IELTS exam to ensure I meet the requirements for my master’s application.
The purpose of this blog
This space is my learning journal—a place to reflect on my experiences, readings, challenges, and everyday moments through a pedagogical lens. I’ll be sharing thoughts on education, instructional design, technology, and professional growth, all with the goal of questioning, improving, and innovating. ✍️
